LIB 604 Library in the School Curriculum

This class will examine the role of the school library and the school librarian in the school curriculum, and one of the culminating results of the class will be an opportunity for you to develop a statement of your own personal vision of the role of the school librarian, taking into account your own strengths and weaknesses.

Make sure that you explore every nook and cranny of the site so that you become familiar with it and discover the information that has been entered here for you! You are now You are now on the front page of the course website. To enter the main course, click on the title of the class either under the Main Course category or under Available Courses. Later on, as we begin the Collaborative Action Research Project, you will see other "courses" appear, representing the different groups involved in the project.

Once you've clicked on the title of the main course, and you've entered the one-time enrollment key, you will be brought to the main page of the course. Most of it should be self-explanatory You'll see links to the
Class Syllabus in both Word 2003 and Word 2007/2010 formats, and links to the 4 assignments on which your grade will be based in the top central panel. The next panel below it (marked as #1) includes a discussion forum where you can ask questions about the assignments and anything else related to the class. Panels 2-8 contain the class discussion topics. Information about each topic, including readings, will become available a few days before the topic is scheduled to begin.

Course Description:

An approach to understanding the role of the school media librarian and the media center in the school curriculum, with the aim of developing the school as a learning community, stressing collaboration between administrators, teachers and librarians in planning learning experiences.
